Running in parallel with the major exhibition Ruin Lust at Tate Britain, Thom Gorst's latest collection of paintings at the Anise Gallery called Open and Shut records the development of his practice in representing maritime ruination. This new collection of works on canvas condenses themes about the ruins of modernity.  Through their colour they show how futile are our attempts to paint over the ravages of decay, and through their stillness they evoke the relentless dynamic of tragedy and dissolution in maritime places.
